Perupetro Expects to Sign 44 Exploration Contracts by 2023

Seferino Yesquen, president of Perupetro, revealed that one of the main goals of his sector is to reach 44 signed exploration contracts by the end of the next five-year period. During his participation in Peru Energía 2019, he also indicated that the objective for this year is to reach a production of 60,000 barrels of oil per day and an investment of 700 million dollars. “The challenges (for the hydrocarbon sector) are not in the subsoil, but on the surface, fundamentally in the relationship with the communities, which is what will allow us to access resources”, he said.

Another of Perupetro’s goals, according to Seferino Yesquén, is the execution of a committed amount of 5,000 million dollars in six lots over the next five years. This will be done with the purpose of increasing production to 100,000 barrels of oil per day. “Despite the carbon it produces, oil and gas will remain the main sources of energy for the next 30 years. The Talara basin has been produced for more than 150 years and we continue to discover more resources. Talara is the main oil producer in Peru”, he said.

Among the achievements of Perupetro, he highlighted the reduction of royalties in incremental production of lot X, the modification of contract to encourage exploration in lot XIII, the signing of two technical evaluation agreements for areas LVIII and LXIX, the declaration of commerciality of lots 39 and 95, and the signing of the contract of lot Z-64.

“To manage our oil and gas resources, we must maximize the recovery of reserves, resolve resource contingencies that await commercialization, and encourage the exploration of prospective resources to replenish reserves”, he said.
