Peruvians know quality Seafood!
Peru is the top exporter in the world of fish meal and fish oil, but also produces a fantastic variety of fish, including mahi-mahi, tuna, shrimp, scallops, squid and giant squid products, mackerels, anchovies and sardines, in addition to processed food in surimi, burgers, nuggets, etc.
Furthermore, Peru is now developing an active aquaculture industry in scallops, shrimp, trout and paiche and other Amazonian species.
Peruvian exports of seafood reached in 2019 $ 1.6 billion and $ 194 million was delivered into the US. Giant squid products exports were $ 843 million, followed by shrimp with $ 231 million and scallops with $ 88 million.
Other important seafood exports from Peru in 2019 were Mahi for $ 52 million, trout for $ 39 million, and canned anchovies for $ 38 million.
