Four southern regions received 48.6% of total mining investments in Peru between January and October 2018, privately-run National Society of Mining, Oil, and Energy (SNMPE) reported on Thursday.
These were Ica (US$600 million), Moquegua (US$456 million), Tacna (US$376 million), and Arequipa (US$361 million).
According to the guild, the Inca country’s total mining investment amounted to US$3.697 billion in the analyzed period, thus increasing 26.8% over the similar term in 2017.
In October, mining investments totaled US$458 million, a 19.4% rise compared to the same month last year.
Production
Likewise, SNMPE pointed out Arequipa region led copper production between January and October, registering 415,000 fine metric tons (FMT), followed by Ancash region (381,000 FMT).
Meanwhile, La Libertad region was the major producer of gold (29.6 tons), Ancash region of zinc (458,000 FMT), and Junin region of silver (583 tons).
