Peru: Arequipa welcomed over 35,000 visitors during anniversary

Over 35,000 tourists visited Peru’s southern Arequipa City during its 478th anniversary week, Province Municipality’s Tourism Deputy Manager Carlos Sanchez informed Tuesday.

According to the official, the exact figures will be known by the end of the month, but the numbers will be positive thanks to the evident tourist flow recently seen on the city’s streets.

Tourists’ interest in visiting Arequipa is not merely centered on the festivities’ main days —August 14 or 15— but also before or after them due to the diverse artistic-cultural program offered for the White City’s anniversary month.

Said activities attract tourists and even persuade them to stay longer in the metropolis, which contribute to an increasing flow this month, a positive result for Arequipa.

Activities such as the carving contest, school bands competition, Arequipa’s Flag Parade, gastronomic fair, and Friendship Parade, among other festivities, encourage tourists to schedule their visits based on these events, the official indicated.
