International Tourist Arrivals Up 2.7% During First Four Months of the Year

The number of visitors coming to Peru increased to 1,463,499 between January and April 2019, a difference of 39,064 persons compared to last year’s same period, Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) reported Thursday.

Edgar Vasquez, minister of Mincetur, affirmed that in April, the most significant increases were observed in visits from Chile, United States, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia and Brazil. Mexico, Spain, France, Canada, Germany and the UK, also showed a rise in the number tourists they sent. According to the official, the previously mentioned countries accounted for about 79.4% of total international arrivals in Peru.

It is worth noting that visits from Pacific Alliance member countries saw an increase of 5.5% during the term. This result offset the decline in tourists from the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), mainly from Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil. International tourist arrivals at Jorge Chavez International Airport totaled 809,794, posting a 6.4% increase from the same period last year.
