International Demand Drives Peruvian Exports of Raspberries and Blackberries

Raspberries and blackberries could be the next star of the Peruvian agro-export sector, given that international demand is currently boosting its exports, according to the Institute for Research and Development of the Foreign Trade Commerce of Lima (IDEXCAM).

In the period 2011 – 2018, world imports of raspberries and blackberries maintained a constant year-on-year growth of 17%. During 2018, a total export value of 2,850 million dollars corresponding to a volume of 417,649 tons, was registered. Worldwide, the United States, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom and Spain are the main countries that demand these fruits.

“With this scenario, exports of raspberries and blackberries are showing signs of growth that would help diversify the export portfolio”, said Idexcam CEO Carlos Posada. In the first four months of the year, the value of shipments totaled $ 19,883, a figure that is close to what was recorded in 2017 ($ 20,000), and that could increase much more at the end of 2019.
