Huancavelica Works in Order to Become the First Organic Region in Per

Supported by the Association of Exporters (Adex), Huancavelica works on its goal to be the first ‘organic region’ of Peru. Its authorities and producers were trained in topics of interest and participated in a business round to articulate its export offer. It was reported that the training workshop included topics such as business opportunities, marketing and control board, productive chain, sustainability scheme for the international market, export panorama of alpaca, avocado and quinoa, and training on how to successfully participate in business conferences.

Maciste Díaz, regional governor of Huancavelica, said that his region has crops such as avocado, native potato, quinoa and corn, which have a pending agenda that will contribute to the goal of turning Huancavelica into the “first organic region of the country”.

Moreover, the president of Adex, Alfonso Velásquez Tuesta, claimed that although the situation of poverty persists in many families of Huancavelica, the resources that the region has, give immense potential for their family agriculture to be incorporated into modernity. “It is an anomalous situation that urgently needs to be corrected,” he said. Velasquez also explained that the elements that accompany modern agriculture are related to a valuable workforce and the proper management of the means of production, access to markets, access to technology and a logistics network.
