Cusco, Puno, Arequipa and Ica are, along with Lima, Peru’s most visited regions by foreign vacationers interested in cultural tourism, according to the latest Foreign Tourist Profile.
Based on the research, tourists engaging in cultural activities in Peru exceeded one million.
The Exports and Tourism Promotion Board’s (PromPeru) study states that such flow has grown 7% a year since 2015.
85% of international visitors seeking cultural experiences reached southern Cusco region, drawn by attractions in the Inca Empire capital as well as by the spectacular ancient citadel of Machu Picchu.
On the other hand, 31% of visitors arrived in High-Andean Puno to marvel at the mythical Lake Titicaca and engage with Aymara communities inhabiting its islands.
Arequipa and Ica regions rank third among cultural destinations preferred by foreign tourists, accounting for 21% of the stays in each case.
The architectural beauty of the White City’s historical center built in volcanic rock called sillar, the captivating Colca Valley, and communities with strong cultural heritage are Arequipa’s main attractions.
For its part, Ica has quickly gained the attention of tourists thanks to the extraordinary Paracas and Nazca cultures, developed in this part of the territory.
