Contamana Emerging as a Tourist Destination in the Peruvian Amazon

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) is currently working with the Regional Government of Loreto, the Municipality of Contamana and the private sector of Contamana in order to stablish this city as a tourist destination in the Peruvian Amazon. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Edgar Vásquez. “Contamana has an important tourism potential, which is why we have been working hand in hand with the Regional Government of Loreto and the private sector on the preparation of the Regional Strategic Tourism Plan (Pertur), a document with which this place can acquire tourist value and become a benchmark for tourism in the Peruvian Amazon”, he said.

He also explained that the development of Pertur will identify the tourism resources of Contamana. it will also benefit the tourist activity and the inhabitants of the town.

“To achieve the positioning and competitiveness of the city of Contamana, it is important to link the public and private sector actors, and we are working to reach this goal”, he said.

The owner of the Mincetur visited the tourist complex of Aguas Calientes and the Chia Tipishca lake, both attractions of Contamana, and could verify their tourism potential.

During his work visit, Minister Váaquez was accompanied by Vice Minister of Tourism, Jose Vidal; the congressman for the Loreto region, Jorge Melendez; and the mayor of Contamana, Hector Soto.
