Tumbes has one of its main attractions in whale and whale shark watching. The Canoas district of Punta Sal, one of the towns that have been privileged by nature, is located 78 kilometers south of the capital of Tumbes. Since July to October, humpback whales, which arrive from the ice Antarctic waters to give birth and mate, can be seen in its coasts.
And it is that watching these large mammals gloat among the warm Peruvian waters has become a real spectacle. Every year there are hundreds of national and foreign tourists who come to this Tumbesian district to witness this spectacle of nature.
Whale watching also includes whale sharks, considered the largest fish in the world as they may reach twenty meters of length. They also have a presence in this part of the Peruvian coast between September and January.
Depending on the type of boat and services selected for the tour, it can cost between 15 and 50 dollars and its duration is around two or three hours. Tourists, in addition to seeing large mammals in their habitat, can later enjoy Tumbesian cuisine. The ticket to the town of Canoas de Punta Sal costs around 3 dollars. The trip can take up to eighty minutes, departing from the city of Tumbes.
