Peru: Exports total US$39.4 billion between Jan-Oct 2018

Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Rogers Valencia on Wednesday informed Peruvian exports reached US$39.453 billion between January and October 2018, thus increasing 10.3% compared to the same period last year.

This result was mainly boosted by non-traditional shipments, which amounted to US$10.827 billion, registering a 14.9% rise.

Products such as giant squid (+65.5%), blueberries (+54.1%), grapes (+40.7%), and avocados (+25.3%) stood out.

“Almost every higher value-added sector has expanded its exports (…). Non-traditional exports will register record numbers in 2018, exceeding US$13 billion,” the official expressed.

On the other hand, traditional shipments amounted to US$28.626 billion (+8.6%), underpinned by greater sales of natural gas (+50%) and naphtha (+24%). Both products are linked to the Camisea Project exploitation.

Agro-exports break record

Agro-exports —which make up 42% of non-traditional shipments— exceeded US$4.6 billion in the 10-month period, up 17% from the same term last year.

Within this framework, shipments of chestnuts (+45%), avocados (+25.3%), and citrus fruits (+6.1%) reached record figures by October 2018.

Fishery sector

The Inca country’s fishery exports have also increased. The sector’s shipments expanded 35.6% in October and 30.6% between Jan-Oct (US$1.213 billion).

The top exported products in the aforementioned period were giant squids (+65%) and canned fish (+37%).
