Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Rogers Valencia on Friday announced the Central Government currently works on regulating the entry of tourists to Cusco region’s gem Machu Picchu.
According to him, this measure will be implemented in January 2019, adding the entrance to the historical sanctuary will rely on a schedule.
“This will enable the improvement of all the services connected to Peru’s major tourist attraction,” the official expressed.
Therefore, prior registration will be needed in order to enter the Inca citadel. This will result in a better experience for visitors.
Furthermore, this measure was coordinated, developed, and boosted by the Culture Ministry.
The initiative is also supported by Mincetur, Environment Ministry, regional authorities, and tourist guilds, among others.
“This action is fundamental. We must seek order. That way, we will improve tourists’ experience when they visit Machu Picchu and we’ll preserve our major historical monument,” Valencia concluded.
Remarks were made during the first decentralized and public meeting organized by the Congress Foreign Trade and Tourism Commission.
