The city of Paucartambo, located in the Cusco region, expects to receive more than 10,000 national and foreign tourists during the festival of the Virgen del Carmen. It will be held from the 14th to the 19th of this month.
Guido Quiñonez, head of the Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur), reported that the municipal authority and the parishioners organize the party to be attended by people from Cuzco and abroad, and give them the opportunity to appreciate the religiosity and immaterial culture. “It is a party that has greater connotation and attractiveness”, he said in relation to the increasing number of people traveling to Paucartambo to appreciate the rituals of devotion to Virgen del Carmen.
Quiñonez also said that the massive number of visitors exceeds the attention capacity of hotels and restaurants, therefore, visitors are usually welcomed into the neighbor’s homes. Regarding restaurants in the area, he assured that entrepreneurs are trained for quality care. Tourists also tend to visit other attractions such as archaeological remains and the area of Tres Cruces, where a beautiful sunrise can be seen.
