Huascaran National Park Will Diversify its Offer and Include New Attractions

The Huascaran National Park, located in the Ancash region, will diversify its touristic offer and include new attractions in the Conchucos area. This measure will benefit more than 13,000 residents of the districts of Huantar and Huari. In these areas, sustainable economic alternatives related to tourism such as boat rides and lodging will be promoted and implemented. This is included in the agreement signed by the National Service of Natural Protected Areas by the State (Sernanp) and the Provincial Municipality of Huari. These entities will coordinate efforts to strengthen the tourism potential of the Conchucos area.

Sustainable economic initiatives will be led by the local people themselves and would contribute to the diversification of the tourist offer of this protected natural area. Therefore, the head of the Huascaran National Park, William Martínez, and the provincial mayor of Huari, Luis Sánchez, held a coordination meeting in which the need to work jointly on the improvement of tourism services in both sectors was highlighted. “Tourism activity is a mechanism to achieve conservation, recreation and education objectives for visitors, as well as to promote the involvement of local communities in the management of protected natural areas, providing opportunities for development”, Martinez said. For its part, the provincial mayor of Huari stressed that the objective of promoting tourism in this area is to provide the local population with sustainable economic alternatives that allow replacing other types of activities that generate negative impact on the protected area. The Purhuay lagoon is located in the heights of the annex of the rural community of Acopalca, 7 kilometers away from the city of Huari, while the Ichic Potrero lagoon is located in the district of Huantar, where access roads are currently being improved.
