Cultural Show Celebrates the 82nd Anniversary of Sechin’s Discovery

An impressive cultural spectacle was done in order to celebrate the 82nd anniversary of the discovery of the Sechin Monumental Archaeological Complex, located in the Ancash region. Sechin was illuminated during the night, and in addition to the traditional route that can be done during the day, visitors were delighted with typical dances. The act that got the most attention was the dance of The Warriors of Sechin, which was staged by students of the educational institution Santa Isabel of Hungary of Casma.

The show was the closure for various activities that were held throughout the day. For example, the date was used to present the projects of excavation, conservation and archaeological research that will be carried out in Cerro Sechin, financed by the Provincial Municipality of Casma.

Luis Alarcón, mayor of the province of Cadiz, indicated that a budget of 472,401 soles (approximately 143,478 dollars) has been allocated for the first stage of the project, which will last close to six months. Alarcón added that a complete analysis of the state of conservation of the structures will be made using modern technology and a documentary record that will include the topographic and photogrammetric survey of the area to be intervened.

“This important investment of the Provincial Municipality of Casma, that will be carried out after 49 years, represents a valuable contribution for the development of national archeology, the strengthening of our cultural identity and a great boost to sustainable tourism in Ancash”, said the municipal authority. Furthermore, the Mexican archaeologist Mónica Suárez highlighted the work being done in order to protect, preserve and invest in the archaeological zones.
